Main Screen
Features
Every aspect of the measurement uncertainty analysis process can be accessed from the Main
Screen. Various options, functions and features include menu and tool bars
for quick access to drill-down analysis screens and worksheets, an
analysis procedure checklist, a section containing key information about
the subject parameter being analyzed, a table containing a list of
measurement process error sources and related fields for entering and
display associated uncertainty information, the total combined uncertainty
displayed in the bottom of the error source table, and a section for
estimating uncertainty growth over time from measurement.
The
Menu bar provides access to a wide variety of program functions and
options including saving and opening analysis files, printing options,
editing options, opening and updating the measurement units and instrument
databases, opening process uncertainty worksheets and screens, viewing
distribution plots for selected error sources, viewing a pareto chart of
error source contributions to overall uncertainty, and running
external applications.
The Tool bar provides icons that can be used to access selected
options and functions. A brief description of the associated
function or options can be obtained by placing the mouse cursor over the
icon of interest.
The user-interactive Analysis Procedure checklist, located on the
left side of the Main Screen, provides a structured walk-through of the
basic steps in analyzing uncertainty for typical measurement
situations. Selecting any one of the listed items launches the
appropriate worksheet, screen or template. When an analysis
procedure step is completed, the corresponding check box color changes
from red to blue and a check mark appears.
The Subject Parameter Information section summarizes what is known
about the subject parameter being analyzed. Data are not entered
directly into this section. Instead, the information displayed is
based on data entered into the Subject
Parameter Bias Uncertainty Worksheet or Subject
Parameter Template.
The Error Source table provides the primary means for identifying
and estimating measurement process uncertainties and including them in the
total, combined uncertainty. The table contains seven columns for
selecting error sources, entering data, displaying computed results, and
selecting which error sources to include in the combined uncertainty
estimate. Measurement process errors include: Subject Parameter
Bias, Measuring Parameter Bias, Subject Parameter Random, Measuring
Parameter Random, Subject Parameter Resolution, Measuring Parameter
Resolution, Operator Bias, Digital Sampling, Computation, Environmental
Factors, Stress Response, and User Defined. Clicking on the desired
Error Source button activates the appropriate screen or worksheet for
entering data and estimating uncertainty.
The Subject Parameter Uncertainty Growth section of the Main
Screen allows the user to estimate the uncertainty in the value of the
subject parameter at some specified elapsed time since measurement.
The uncertainty growth forecast is based on information obtained using the
built-in Reliability Modeling feature. |
