Measurement
Configuration Screen
The first step in any measurement uncertainty
analysis is to establish the relationship between the subject parameter
and the measuring parameter. This
involves defining the measurement configuration.
On the Main Screen, clicking the Setup the Analysis
button in the Analysis Path list opens the Measurement Configuration Options Screen.
There are four configurations to choose from: MTE Model, SU Model,
Indirect Model, and General Model. With the MTE Model, the
measuring parameter measures the subject parameter directly.
With the SU Model, the measuring parameter provides a
reference that is measured by the parameter.
With the Indirect Model, both the measuring parameter and
the subject parameter measure a common artifact. The General Model
is a "catchall" category for configurations other than the first
three options. For example,
the measuring parameter may not directly measure the subject parameter,
rather other quantities may be directly measured and used to compute the
value of the subject parameter.
Why Specify a Configuration?
Specifying a configuration allows Uncertainty Sidekick Pro to de-activate analysis
screens that are not needed for a given analysis. In addition, for certain configurations, specifying a configuration triggers an automatic background analysis, referred to as SMPC.
SMPC combines pre-measurement assumptions about measurement uncertainty with measurement results to produce a refinement of pre-measurement assumptions. The refinement includes bias uncertainty estimates for both the subject parameter and the measuring system, along with accompanying in-tolerance probabilities.
